Puccini conceived Turandot, intended as his final opera, during a period of illness, old age, and a Europe unsettled by political turmoil. Despite these challenges, he worked on it until his death, leaving it unfinished. Inspired by a 13th-century Persian epic, Turandot offered him an escape into a new dramatic world of striking sounds, symbols, and exotic influences. In this distant setting, Puccini explored themes of exoticism, desire, love, and forgiveness, mirroring Princess Turandot's own transformative journey.

This was a new production of Turandot, directed by Robert Wilson, one of the leading directors of the 20th and 21st centuries. Stella cast is led by Nina Stemme, Gregory Kunde and Yolanda Auyane.
